Let’s Recap: Insights from the CHW N’ Action Webinar Series
Health Equity, QC4 Updates
As we conclude our dynamic CHW N’ Action Webinar Series, presented in collaboration with Mecklenburg County, South Piedmont AHEC, and the Center for Community Health Alignment, we reflect on the meaningful impact. CHW N’ Action aimed to shed light on the vital role of Community Health Workers (CHWs) and highlight their invaluable contributions to the communities they serve. Over the course of three engaging webinar series, we covered various topics, including the scope of practice and roles of CHWs, health and racial equity, and social determinants of health. The series was particularly noteworthy for featuring a panel discussion with a diverse group of CHWs. The panelists represented different organizations and worked in various clinical and community settings, which added depth to the conversation and provided a wide range of insights. Attendees had the chance to participate in meaningful discussions, gain new perspectives, and learn how to effect positive change in their communities.
Bridging Gaps: CHW N’ Action
CHW N’ Action was an invaluable resource for anyone seeking a comprehensive understanding of the CHW profession. Comprised of three parts, the series offers a thorough overview of CHW roles, competencies, and settings, as well as innovative strategies for addressing health disparities and promoting health equity. The expert panelists, which include subject matter experts and CHWs, bring to light their unique perspectives and lived experiences to illustrate the transformative impact of CHWs in improving health outcomes and equity. The first webinar, “Community Health Workers 101”, serves as a foundational overview of CHWs. In contrast, the second webinar, titled “Health and Racial Equity”, offers a deeper dive into the role of CHWs in promoting health equity through novel engagement strategies. The final webinar, “Addressing Social Determinants of Health”, highlights how CHWs can work upstream to tackle social determinants of health and improve the quality of life for residents in Mecklenburg County. Overall, the webinar series provides a broad understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the CHW profession, and how CHWs are uniquely positioned to transform the health landscape in their communities.
