The 2023 Southeast CHW Network Summit was a resounding success, bringing together dedicated professionals from various backgrounds who share a common goal – to improve community health and elevate the CHW profession. This recap aims to capture the essence of the summit by highlighting key moments and takeaways that left our CHWs and CHW allies inspired and ready to make a difference in our communities. 

Empowering CHWs through Education

One of the central themes of the conference was the importance of educational and technical assistance for CHWs. Over fifteen workshops and breakout sessions were dedicated to enhancing CHW skills and knowledge, in addition to ways to advocate for the CHW profession. From health and racial equity to reaching reciprocity regarding certification standards, attendees had the opportunity to learn and grow, further equipping them to better serve their communities. 

Advocacy and Policy Change 

Advocacy and policy change was a prevalent theme throughout the conference. Attendees were able to share progress on national CHW advocacy efforts, in addition to learning how the North Carolina CHW Association was able to orchestrate their very first Advocacy Day held in April of 2023. Through the discussion of policy change and latest updates for advocacy efforts for CHWs, the conference emphasized the importance of advocacy for the CHW profession. 

Networking and Collaboration

One of the most significant benefits of the conference was the opportunity for networking and collaboration among CHWs and CHW allies. Attendees were able to convene and exchange contact information, share best practices, and forge partnerships that will lead to more impactful community health initiatives. It was amazing to feel the collective sense of unity among all the attendees! 

Above all, the 2023 Southeast CHW Network Summit left attendees inspired and reinvigorated in their commitment to elevating the CHW profession. The shared experiences and knowledge gained at the summit will serve as a catalyst for positive change in the communities they serve.
