    To unify, equip, and empower CHWs to serve
    Mecklenburg County communities.

    Purpose

    To unify CHWs across organizations in a collaborative forum by
    creating an environment that equips and empowers those to serve
    Mecklenburg County communities.

    Objectives

    • Convene Community Health Workers in a collaborative forum that nurtures workforce and professional development opportunities.
    • Increase public and professional recognition of community health worker expertise and contribution.
    • Equip CHWs with relevant resources by sharing active health and social services that serve Mecklenburg County communities.

    The Impact of Community Health Workers

    Community Health Workers (CHWs) facilitate access to services and improve the quality and cultural competency of service delivery.

    Community Health Workers (CHWs) are frontline public health workers who are trusted members and /or has an unusually close understanding of the community served.

    History and research have shown since the 1960’s that health professionals who have taken on CHW roles and responsibilities have been engaged in building health/racial equity by addressing underlying causes and were collectively birthed out of inequities within their communities.
